Bird Skip

Bird Barrier America is launching a new bird deterrent, called Bird Skip. Created by the design team of our popular wind-powered Eagle Eye product, Bird Skip provides a solution for flat and slightly angled surfaces.

What Is Bird Skip?
Bird Skip works using two HD composite fiberglass rods that rotate around a central base. The telescopic rods fold into each other for transport and the unit is easy to assemble and install.

Each rod is 5.5 feet in length and fitted with two wind cups. The combined length for this product is 11 feet in size. The central base contains a durable double-bearing assembly, and no electricity is required. Truly eco-friendly!

Where To Use?
Bird Skip is ideal for solar panels, flat rooftops, HVAC units, swimming pool perimeters, skylights, fishing ponds and paved surface areas.

There are three versions to choose from:

  • Wind driven - The cups grab the wind for power
  • Solar Powered - Battery powered motor is charged by a solar panel
  • Building Powered - The motor is plugged into an outlet, and transformed to 12-volts

Both the Solar and 120-volt versions are powered by an electric motor (the same motor in each).

With the solar-powered unit the motor is powered by a solar panel.

With the 120-volt version the motor is powered by plugging it into the building, like charging a phone.

A Bird Skip unit can simply be placed in the middle of a problem area and the rods and motion will do the rest!

Eagle Eye® Reflective Bird Deterrent

The Eagle Eye system is an array of devices that harmlessly deters birds from unwanted areas by making use of light beams reflected from direct sunlight.

The Eagle Eye devices rotate to reflect sunlight outward and downward to protect a given airspace from all approach angles. The flashes of light reflected by the Eagle Eye, Pro-Peller, and Bird Breezer devices are designed to mimic a predator hunting in the area, disorienting approaching birds and causing them to divert to a less hostile airspace.

Each Eagle Eye array is custom-designed to provide the maximum protection for its specific environment and target bird. Each device plays a specific role from wide-area optical deterrence to kinetic and sonic deterrence and comes in two different color schemes to match the ocular morphology of the target birds--gold/silver for land birds like pigeons, grackles, and starlings or red for marine birds such as gulls and terns.

When installed per specifications provided by Bird Barrier and Eagle Eye USA, users can expect guaranteed* results! Do not attempt to go at it alone; contact Bird Barrier for a customized, guaranteed layout first!

Mist Net Kits

Finally, Mist Nets that are EASY to set up and take down! Using a mist net to capture birds in a store is already a challenging matter. Your equipment shouldn’t make it harder!

Bird Barrier’s new Mist Net Kits minimize labor time and headaches through a series of innovations:

  • An angled 140-pound magnet locks to steel beams, shelves and pipes.
  • Rubber coated hooks are used to hang poles from pipes and conduit.
  • A removable, 60-inch top section enables users to simply roll up mist nets when done using them.
  • Telescoping 18-foot and 24-foot bottom-section poles deliver smooth cam-lock section control. And aluminum is far stiffer than fiberglass.
  • A locking coupler provides a strong link between the top section and telescopic poles.
  • Flexible fiberglass chase pole and painter’s tape flag are an ideal way to chase birds toward the net trap.
  • Laser pointer reinforces the chase pole.

Tree-Shock™

  • How it Works: When the bird/animal’s foot touches the positive and negatively-charged wires, it gets a shock that trains them to stay away.

Solar Panel Protection

Solar panels are being installed on commercial and residential roofs across America at an ever-increasing rate. These arrays provide perfect harborage for birds and other critters, and homeowners are desperate for a solution. Bird Barrier has two great solutions.

Solution 1 - Solar Stixx

Solar Stixx is a premium, ready-to-install system consisting of a UV-stabilized plastic upper section that fastens to the solar panel combined with stainless steel rods that extend below to conform to the roof surface. This solar panel protection system accommodates solar panels in nearly any configuration or along nearly any roof type. Irregular roof surfaces such as Spanish tile are easily addressed without the extensive cutting and bending required for our traditional mesh-and-clip system.

Solution 2 - Clip-And-Mesh Solar Panel Protection Kits

The original clip-and-mesh system developed by Bird Barrier is still the industry standard in solar panel protection. In this patent-pending approach, steel mesh is fastened to the perimeter of the panel array by innovative, non-invasive, non-penetrating clips extending from the panels' frames into locking sliders. Clips are available in a UV-stabilized plastic that won't scratch or mar the panels or metal for use in more extreme climates.

TowerGuard

How it Works
Tower Guard deters Gulls, Cormorants, Vultures, Osprey, Hawks and Owls and other large birds. It creates both a visual and physical barrier for railings and flat surfaces. Birds are looking for a low "cost of energy" perch that is easy and safe. As they view the Guard, they see that it takes away the perch and it is too small and unstable to land on.

Removable
By pulling a simple pin, the posts can be easily removed from the bases. This allows for maintenance on antennas and railing where access is important.

Material
Made from the same plastic that the telecom industry uses for its outdoor boxes. It's well documented to withstand UV degradation for many years.

Non-Metal Options
For sensitive applications (radar and radio sites), the Tower Guard system can be installed without metal parts. Use the polyester cord (not the metal Birdwire), and replace the Post Locking Pin with a short length of polyester cord, knotted as shown on the opposite page.

Audio Deterrents

Matching the noise to the bird’s behavior is key. There are two types of sonic devices: alarm/distress calls and frightening noise. Distress call devices mimic the bird’s natural communication sounds. Birds relay information on dangerous situations to the rest of the flock through use of distress cries; these electronic bird repellers broadcast a copy of this distress cry to scare the flock away. Since these sounds are species specific, you must buy the correct distress call for the type of birds you are handling. Irritating noise devices on the other hand, work by making loud, random noises that annoy the flock. Zon canons, air horns, gun shots and simply banging pots and pans together are all examples of frightening noise devices.

For sonic devices to be effective, they should be used in conjunction with visual devices and timed to the bird’s behavior. This means you should wait until the flock is returning to their roosting spot in the late afternoon and then hit them with an overload of noise, distress calls and threatening movement. It may take several days to move the birds. A common mistake is to leave the noise devices constantly on; this allows the bird to realize that the noise is not paired to their behavior and not a threat to them.

Visual Deterrents

Visual Bird Deterrents

Looking to scare birds away for good? Decoy owls and other predators, reflective and holographic devices such as scare tape (not aluminum foil), optical gel, our bright colors of bird scare eye balloons, fly away lasers, and other visual deterrents keep pest birds away.

Unlike sound deterrents, visual bird deterrents work by using bright colors, motion, flashing lights, and other signs of danger to frighten birds away from a home, garden, business, or another type of property. When used correctly, bird scaring devices make pest birds such as pigeons, crows, and starlings so uncomfortable that they will fly off and not return rather than trapping birds or dealing with bird nests.

This is how to keep birds away and bird pooping problems a distant memory.

Smell & Taste Deterrents

The products in this category utilize Methyl anthranilate, a safe non-toxic bird repellent made from an extract from concord grapes. When misted or fogged into the air the smell irritates birds and, in most cases, will drive them away. When applied to grass, trash and other things birds like to eat, the taste impacts them in a way that will force them to search for greener pastures. Methyl anthranilate affects bird’s pain centers, creating an unpleasant sensation. Birds learn to avoid areas that have been treated and seek other locations. The products below are effective against most birds.

BD-135

A small, simple to use bag which emits Methyl anthranilate (MA) into the air space to repel birds from hard-to-protect areas. The product consists of small fabric bags that contain MA infused material, that can be hung, placed on a flat surface, or placed inside a dispenser. The dispenser can then be mounted to a wall or placed on a flat surface. BD-135 can repel birds from trees, shelving, gutters, and other settings where traditional deterrent products can’t be installed. 3-month efficacy.

Avian Fog Force Time Release

This automated time-release aerosol bird repellent can be programmed to spray MA when birds are active. It discourages birds from congregating on individual homes, apartment buildings, schools, stadiums, resorts, condos marinas, pools, patios and food courts. Best for starlings, blackbirds, robins, crows, and pigeons. The life of the aerosol depends on the programming of the dispenser.

Avian Control®

An EPA-registered liquid bird repellent. For ease of application, Avian Control® can be applied via fogging or spraying from the ground or aerial. This effective bird repellent has lasting results, up to 2 weeks outdoors and even longer indoors. Best for flocking birds, starlings, blackbirds, robins, crows and pigeons. Ideal for agriculture (crops), dairy barns, trees, office parks, power plants, parks, etc.

Avian Migrate® Goose Repellant

An EPA-registered liquid bird repellent. Migrate can be applied with ground or portable spray equipment to turf and other surfaces (it cannot be fogged). Ideal for lawns and grassy areas, athletic fields, trees, bushes and landscaping, dumpsters and trash containers, marinas, etc. Ideal for geese, mute swans, coots, and other small birds. It should be applied every two weeks, or as results dictate.

Bird Traps

The use of bird traps is an excellent way to reduce the bird population of most bird species prior to the installation of bird deterrent products. The flock can be reduced drastically without harming protected wild birds and minimizing public reaction.

Many times bird removal is the only dispersal method available due to firearm and avicide restrictions. The trade off is time and effort. A successful trapping project takes several days and multiple journeys to the job site. Effective trapping entails proper site selection, pre-baiting, trapping, bird removal and follow-up.

It must be emphasized, flock reduction is only a preliminary step to deterrent product installation. If you remove birds but do not deter other birds, you will simply have new birds move into the vacuum you created.

Dryer Vent Covers

Birds and wildlife love warm dryer vents, for obvious reasons. And many methods of exclusion are short-term or worse. Some also hold lint and clog up the exhaust. The Defender and Dryer Wall Vent are long-lasting, powder-coated metal solutions that keep the pests out without interfering with the dryer’s functionality.

Dryer Wall Vent

Engineered for a quick, perfect fit for both vent replacement and new construction, this stylish and durable enclosure meets or exceeds all code requirements for safe dryer venting. Heavy gauge Galvalume® steel body with powder coating ensures a long duty life. Clean lines make a nice aesthetic contribution to every home..

The Defender Vent Guard

Attempts to make a nest inside vents is not just a nuisance—it can be a serious fire hazard. The Defender provides serious protection and, made of heavy gauge steel that is zinc and powder coated, it withstands the test of time. Its patented design including vertical bars—for easy exterior cleaning—has been taken to new levels with added, patent pending features for making full exhaust system maintenance simple as well.

Wildlife Control Solutions

Birds aren't the only creatures that can make a mess. Bats, squirrels, rats, mice, oppossums, foxes, skunks and many other animals can wreak havoc on your property. Bird Barrier offers a variety of solutions for wildlife control.

Introducing The New PestPole

Bird Barrier, the leading manufacturer of bird control products, is introducing a new line of professional extension poles developed specifically for the pest and wildlife industries.

The pole features a new acme thread that has been designed to lock firmly to all tools developed for acme threads. Some threads only work on some tools, while other threads work on other tools, but this thread fits on every tool tested so far by the manufacturer, including web brushes, paint rollers, scrapers, pesticide applicators, etc.

The poles feature adjustable lever clamps that are fast and easy to release and can be adjusted by turning a knob on the rear side of the clamp. You will appreciate the ability to easily adjust the clamp during a job. Another benefit of this clamp system is that the pole sections can be locked exactly where you want them. And not where a hole has been drilled. Should a section of this pole become damaged, replacement parts are available.

The range of these aluminum poles includes four different sizes: 12 ft., 18 ft., 24 ft., and 30 ft. They will also collapse to short lengths so they can fit in any service vehicle. Even most passenger cars. The 30 ft. pole collapses down to 5’ 8”.

Safety & High Rise Gear

Worker safety at a bird proofing project must always be the number one concern. In fact, there are several local, state and federal regulations that can apply when working on a bird project. The goal of these laws and also of your company’s worker safety program is to prevent serious injury at the work site. These laws are created and enforced by the Occupational, Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). Most OSHA regulations are created at the federal level, but some states add additional regulations with enforcement occurring at both the state and federal level.

Since there is extensive regulation when it comes to workplace safety, this manual covers only the basic principle of the law where it pertains to bird exclusion work. Actual text of the relevant OSHA regulations is included and summarized in this chapter, but it is important to refer to the original language of the law or contact OSHA directly for specific questions or situations.

In bird control, the main focus is fall prevention. Many, if not most bird control projects involve working on roofs, overhangs and high ledges. In situations like these a fall protection system must be in place to protect the worker from an accidental fall. There are three parts to implementing a complete fall protection system: determining if fall protection is needed, installing the fall protection system, and insuring worker’s use of the system through training and education.

Cleaning Supplies

Step 1: Moisten, Loosen Debris
Dried bird droppings will become airborne when disturbed (cleaned). It is important that they are wetted down to eliminate this risk. Wetting with a bactericide will kill the bacteria at the same time. With heavy accumulation it is necessary to wet down repeatedly.

Step 2: Scoop, Collect
It’s unlikely that large volumes of waste can simply be washed away; they need to be scooped up and removed in bags, and disposed of properly. Contact your local waste facility about the disposal of bird droppings.

Step 3: Wash
Once the majority of the waste is removed, the building surface can be washed with water, detergent and scrub brushes; or pressure washed. Use the Dissolve-It again, it’s a live enzyme that softens even the most stubborn waste.

Step 4: Sanitize
With all the waste now removed, and the building looking clean, it is recommended to finish the job properly by applying a bactericide that will sanitize the surfaces and leave a clean smell.

Step 5: Clean Around the Site
The building is clean, but the sidewalk’s a mess. Finish the job properly.

Training Products

Birds are intelligent creatures and can overwhelm a prevention system if it is not used in the correct application. Many bird control jobs fail simply because the installer does not understand the pest bird they are fighting or because the wrong product is chosen or incorrectly installed.

Simply put, there's a lot more to bird control than using just one product to solve every problem or slapping a product down and walking away forever. Plus, the public is no longer willing to endorse the killing of pest birds; they are looking for humane solutions to their problems. You will learn these solutions in How To Succeed in Urban Bird Control.

Bird Barrier's one-day training course will help you become successful in the lucrative field of bird control. The one-day course includes:

Cimi-Shield®

The Results are In!

CONCLUSIONS

1. Cimi-Shield residues affect the ability of bed bugs to actively walk or move after about 72 hours of exposure.

2. Aging of Cimi-Shield residues for 1- to 3-months slightly lowers its speed of kill, however, 83-87% bed bug mortality (by day 14) is still achievable.

3. Although Cimi-Shield is a 25 (b) category natural product that is exempt from EPA registration, it displays very high residual efficacy against bed bugs.
