Wonderful Facts on a Few Special Birds Found in Oklahoma
The many birds of Oklahoma include the American goldfinch, the black-capped chickadee, the northern cardinal, the western meadowlark, and the yellow-rumped warbler.
The black-capped chickadee is a small, sprightly bird with a black cap and bib, gray back and wings, and white sides and belly. It is one of the few birds that can sing its own name–“chick-a-dee-dee-dee.” The northern cardinal is a medium-sized songbird with a bright red body, black eyes, and a red crest. The western meadowlark is a member of the blackbird family and is easily recognized by its yellow breast and distinctive “meadowlark” song. The yellow-rumped warbler is a small songbird with yellow patches on its sides and rump.
The many birds of Oklahoma can be found in all parts of the state, including the cities of Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, and Lawton.
